The regional perspective

As I am a student of South Asia, not just India, it was crucial for me this time around to gain first-hand experience from another country in the region. Expanding horizons! Yup. The choice fell on Nepal. The previous Hindu kingdom is perhaps best known for its Maoist insurgencies and civil war, which culminated in the peace treaty where the Maoists formed part of a coalition government for the first time, in late 2008 (right?). In addition, the hill nation is known for its spectacular nature (Himalayas!) and ancient temples. Yes, I thought, let's go. And, oh! didn't my beautiful friend Miriam just happen to live in Kathmandu, right now, when I was going there? What a convenient coincidence!
